Everton make Memphis Depay approach, lawyers now in play & More Live News

Everton have made their official approach to sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay this summer, according to SPORT on Saturday.

The Spanish newspaper has reported in its print edition [06 August, pg. 11] that the Catalan giants now need to lighten their squad in order to register new players.

Depay is one of those on the chopping block at the Nou Camp, and his lawyers were at the Barcelona offices this week to find a positive outcome.

Writing in their latest snippet, SPORT did share that a renewal was possible before a permanent or loan transfer can take place in this window.

“The Memphis lawyers were at the Barca offices this week and there is not too much predisposition to renew, although they are exploring it,” they wrote.

“The player wants to study all the proposals – Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton have also approached him, but Juve’s offer attracts him and that is why they are moving forward on this issue, even if it requires Barca to lower its pretensions so that the player has an attractive enough token to give the OK.”

Now, this would be a real statement.

Everton are closing in on the double signing of Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye to strengthen the midfield, and only one area will matter after that is sorted.

The final third is now looking incredibly weak with Richarlison leaving to join Spurs, Dominic Calvert-Lewin picking up another injury and Salomon Rondon suspended.

Depay could arrive on a loan-to-buy which would make perfect financial sense for Farhad Moshiri and the Toffees, with just the wages to pay if it happens at first.

Barcelona need to get rid of, and the Dutch international looks desperate to move, with Juventus currently looking as though they lead the race at this moment.

Another shot at the Premier League will surely appeal to the striker though after his failed spell at Manchester United, and becoming the main man at Goodison Park could be a huge incentive.

It’s a long shot, but Everton would not have made an approach if it was impossible.
