Man City will not be concerned about the now-public investigation into their alleged Financial Fair Play breaches because they can call on the best lawyers in the business to fight their case.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about recent revelations from Premier League chief executive Richard Masters.
It has long been reported that the top flight is conducting a probe into City’s FFP conduct but without confirmation from the league itself.
As quoted by The Athletic last Wednesday (3 August), Masters said: “There is an investigation, and it’s still ongoing.”
City were cleared of misconduct under Uefa’s FFP parameters by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in July 2020 because allegations against them were time-barred.
Maguire forecasts that the reigning Premier League champions will again escape punishment this time around because of their stellar legal team.
“I don’t think City will be worried about this from Richard Masters,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“That is because they are using what is known as the magic circle of legal firms. These firms are very experienced, very thorough in terms of defending their clients.
“City will be relying on them to put together a robust defence of the accusations that are put against them.”
City recorded revenue of £570million in 2020-21, the last financial year on record.
No other team in world football earned more in that time.
